Art in Action!
This spring, The SoLa Foundation proudly launched the inaugural Michael Latt Artivist Accelerator Program: Art in Action. This 12-week internship program for ages 16-22, highlights the intersection of art and activism. Through immersive workshops, guest speakers, and curated events, students explored how creative expression can drive change while developing ideas for community-focused art projects.

Interns toured The Broad and participated in a fireside chat with actor and activist Jesse Williams, who shared his story, career insights, and inspiration for the next generation of creatives. With inspiration at their fingertips, students focus on creating a community-centered art piece for their portfolio, turning vision into purpose with a $1,000 program stipend.

Art in Action’s culminating showcase honors the life and legacy of Michael Latt, a champion for justice, equity, and artistic empowerment in underrepresented communities. Michael was not only a fierce advocate for justice through art, narrative, and policy, he was also a long-time friend and advocate for the SoLa Foundation. His lasting impact on our work includes our beloved Mamie and Emmett Till mural that he helped commission at the Beehive, our home campus in South LA.

We extend our thanks to Michelle Satter, Gina Belafonte, Alexys Feaster , and Paris Barclay, Deniese Davis, Franklin Leonard, April Reign, Jesse Williams, Ava DuVernay, Stephanie Allain Bray, Nikkolas Smith, Reggie Blythewood, Pete Nicks & Proximity Media for partnering with the SoLa Foundation to bring this opportunity to our students.
