At the end of February, members of the Center for Arts and Advocacy gathered on the occasion of Frieze Los Angeles and the 2025 Frieze Impact Prize for a conversation on the transformative power of art for justice-impacted artists. The artist panel was co-moderated by Christine Messineo, Frieze’s Director of Americas and Romola Ratnam, Senior Vice President and Head of Impact, Inclusion, and Advocacy at Endeavor and featured Frieze Impact Prize Winner Victor “Marka27” Quiñonez alongside prize finalists L.W.D, Sherrill Roland, as well as Center Founder and Executive Director Jesse Krimes.
Jared Owens is a recipient of the 2025 Creative Capital Award, which champions artistic freedom by uplifting risk-taking, underinvested artists with a transformative award that provides up to $50,000 in unrestricted project funding, plus access to multiyear wraparound professional development services and community-building opportunities. Sherrill Roland is a recipient of the 2025 United States Artists (USA) Fellowship. The USA Fellowship awards artists and collaboratives across the following disciplines: Architecture & Design, Craft, Dance, Film, Media, Music, Theater & Performance, Traditional Arts, Visual Art, and Writing. Roland is one of 50 artists who will be granted $50,000 in unrestricted funding as well as access to professional services and resources.
Victor “MARKA27” Quiñonez has been selected as one of The Shed’s 2025 – 2026 Open Call artists. Launched as part of The Shed’s inaugural-year program, Open Call is a large-scale commissioning program for early-career, NYC-based artists. Open Call artists receive a commissioning fee of up to $15,000 depending on the scope of their projects, robust production support, and resources to further nurture their practices and expand their audiences. In summer 2025, 12 visual and performance artists/collectives will unveil their work in an exhibition in The Shed’s Level 2 Gallery and on the outdoor Plaza. Five performing artists/collectives will present in summer 2026.
